Living Healthy: Renewing The Habit of Gardening

The last time I seriously posted about gardening was back at the end of 2012. Sadly, in between I managed to let the garden go to pot. Recently, though, Vickie and I have been getting stuck back into the beds that we put in, turning one long bed into five raised beds (including one tall bed so that Vickie can get into it without having to bend down). We got  a lot of work done in the last week, when I was on leave for my birthday.

Of course, it’s all very well to do a lot of work when I have plenty of time.

Part of the reason that the garden went downhill was that I’d come home after work and not go near the vege beds, even to put ten minutes of soil turning or watering in. That’s something I want to change this time around. Thankfully, the rain has started up again so I may not need to run the hose out for a little while, but the beds will still need a regular turn. We’ve left our hand cultivators up near the beds to make just getting stuck in a little easier.

Of course, the next thing is to make sure I’m actually eating the produce of our gardens, and while Vickie loves cooking, it’ll definitely help if I can learn how to do so too!

Here are some progress pictures:
